Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is an Indian sitcom that airs on SAB TV. The show first aired on July 28, 2008 and is produced by Neela Telefilms. The show and its title are based on the column Duniya Na Oondha Chashmah (Gujarati: દુનિયાન ઉંધા ચશ્મા) which loosely translates to "Seeing The World Through Upside-Down Glasses" written by columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta for the Gujarati weekly magazine Chitralekha. The serial is set in a fictitious "Gokuldham Co-Operative Housing Society" in Mumbai, where people from different religious and social backgrounds live together.
The series has aired more episodes than any other sitcom in the world. In August 2010, the show beat Colors TV's popular serial Balika Vadhu to be the most watched serial in the country. It has often been noted for its frequent references to issues of social importance in the country and its positive approach towards the problems faced by the society. Lauded performances by its lead and supporting actors alike have also contributed in making the show a success. Within a year, the popularity of the character Daya Ben, played by Disha Vakani grew immensely and her the role was expanded in the series, unlike the original Gujarati play, where her character only had a minor role. Her popular grating voice in the series, was based on the broken voices of Gujarati theatre actor of old times, when without the presence of mikes, actors has scream out their dialogues and thus their voices soon became gravelly.
On June 22, 2012, the show completed 900 episodes thus becoming the longest running daily comedy show of all time on Indian television and on November 6, 2012 it completed 1000 episodes.
The serial's producer Asit Modi has spent a lot of money on the construction of sets. The outer set is made of wooden planks and the inner sets are located at different studios in the Dadasaheb Phalke Filmcity. In March 2012, the set was renovated.
In December 2012 & January 2013, there was big long track of Gulabo and with this track they created another history as the show got highest TRPs & on no. 01 position in weeks no. 03 & 04 of 2013 in all Indian television GEC. The show has completed four and a half years on January 28, 2013 also & is still the no. 01 family sitcom in Indian Television. The show completed 1100 episodes on 25 March 2013, making it the most successful & longest running daily comedy show of India.
Jak widać, "Kiepskim" do rekordu liczby odcinków całkiem daleko.
